Frequently asked questions
- It is a certified translation of your existing national driver’s licence, presented in a standardised multi-language booklet and digital copy. It is a private translation, not a government-issued International Driving Permit, and it carries no driving rights of its own. It is only meaningful when carried together with your original licence.
- Digital-only plans are $69 for 1 year, $75 for 2 years and $79 for 3 years. Digital plus a printed booklet is $89, $95 and $99 respectively. Shipping for printed booklets is quoted at checkout based on your delivery address.
- That depends entirely on your destination and on the rental company you use. Some countries ask visitors for a translation of a foreign licence; many do not. Check your destination page and your rental company’s terms before ordering — and if you do not need one, please do not buy one.
- You need a valid, unexpired driver’s licence issued in your home country and you must be at least 18. We cannot translate a licence that is expired, suspended or provisional.
- No. Acceptance is decided by local authorities and individual rental desks, not by us, and it varies from country to country. We publish what we know per destination, but we cannot guarantee any particular officer or rental agent will accept it.
- Japan, South Korea, North Korea, mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam do not recognise this kind of translation from foreign visitors. Several require you to obtain a local permit instead. Do not order for travel to these destinations.
- The digital copy is issued once your application passes review, which is usually the same day. Printed booklets are dispatched after that and delivery time depends on the destination and shipping method you choose.
